Farmers Insurance has filed a lawsuit against a former Oklahoma agent, accusing him of conspiring to transfer Farmers policyholders to competing insurers, including an agency where his wife is employed.
According to the complaint, Bradley McKinney violated his Agent Appointment Agreement by selling policies from other insurance carriers through his Farmers agency office.
The lawsuit alleges that before leaving Farmers in 2025, McKinney downloaded his agency’s entire book of business and shared the confidential client data with producers at another agency.
Farmers filed the lawsuit on March 11 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
McKinney operated a Farmers agency in Tulsa under the name McKinney Insurance & Financial Services from 2010 through 2025. His wife, Tory McKinney, and producer Christopher Spicer worked at the agency until 2023, when they left to join Hometown Insurance Agency, an established agency also based in Tulsa.
Farmers claims that later in 2023, Bradley McKinney began steering Farmers policyholders and policies to Tory McKinney and Spicer at Hometown. According to the complaint, the number of active policies at McKinney’s Farmers agency began declining in 2023, continued to fall throughout 2024, and dropped even more sharply during the first four and a half months of 2025.
The insurer further alleges that on February 18, 2025, McKinney exported the full book of business for his Farmers agency into an Excel file. Two days later, he notified Farmers that he intended to terminate his agent appointment agreement.
Farmers stated in the lawsuit that its customer information is stored in secure systems that require multi-factor authentication for access. The company considers the data contained within those systems to be proprietary trade secrets.
Farmers ultimately terminated McKinney’s agent agreement on May 15, 2025—about two weeks before his planned departure. McKinney subsequently joined Hometown Insurance Agency, where he is now employed.
The insurer is seeking both actual and punitive damages and has requested a jury trial.
