Alliant Insurance Services has acquired Melcher & Prescott, an independent insurance agency and brokerage headquartered in Laconia, New Hampshire.
The acquisition expands Alliant’s presence in the Northeast and adds an established agency serving businesses and individuals throughout New England and surrounding areas.
Founded in 1862, Melcher & Prescott has operated for more than 160 years, providing commercial insurance, employee benefits, personal insurance, life and health coverage, and risk management services.
John Harney, executive vice president and senior managing director at Alliant, said the acquisition strengthens the company’s Northeast operations and supports its continued growth. He noted that both organizations share a commitment to providing specialized insurance expertise and client service.
As part of the transaction, Melcher & Prescott will transition to operating under the Alliant Insurance Services name.
Mike Sherman, chairman and CEO of Melcher & Prescott, said joining Alliant will allow the agency to build on its 164-year history while giving clients and employees access to additional resources and specialized insurance expertise.
Sherman also emphasized the importance of maintaining the client relationships the agency has developed over generations.
The acquisition adds Melcher & Prescott’s regional experience and established client base to Alliant’s national insurance brokerage platform.
Alliant announced the transaction on October 7, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed in the announcement.
