Amwins has launched illumin Specialty, a new managing general agency (MGA) specializing in primary general liability and excess liability insurance for complex and hard-to-place risks.
The new MGA will operate within Amwins Underwriting and distribute its products exclusively through wholesale brokers. The launch expands Amwins’ specialty casualty underwriting capabilities, particularly in the excess and surplus (E&S) insurance market.
illumin Specialty will focus on providing coverage solutions for businesses with challenging liability exposures, including risks that may be difficult to place in the standard insurance market.
The MGA will be led by Rebecca Gitig, an insurance industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in environmental and primary liability underwriting.
Joining Gitig are Randy Villanueva and Meredith McLelland, both serving as senior vice presidents. Together, the leadership team brings more than 50 years of combined underwriting experience across various casualty insurance classes.
Ryan Armijo, president of Amwins Underwriting, said the team’s experience and underwriting expertise will help the MGA develop flexible coverage solutions for risks that standard insurance carriers may be unwilling to insure.
Gitig said launching illumin Specialty provides an opportunity to develop insurance programs specifically designed for nonstandard and complex liability exposures. She emphasized the team’s focus on using its underwriting experience to address coverage needs in underserved market segments.
The MGA plans to offer non-admitted primary general liability and excess liability solutions through its wholesale broker distribution network.
According to Amwins, illumin Specialty expects to finalize its insurance capacity arrangements and begin accepting new business during the fourth quarter of 2026.
The launch adds another specialty underwriting operation to Amwins’ platform as the company continues expanding its capabilities in the E&S casualty market.
