Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has acquired Ornella Underwriting Limited, an Ireland-based managing general agent, through its specialist underwriting subsidiary Pen Underwriting.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Based in Wexford, Ireland, Ornella provides a range of commercial and personal insurance products through a network of independent insurance brokers. The MGA has particular expertise in private auto, van, homeowners and commercial motor fleet insurance.
Following the acquisition, Ornella will become part of Pen Underwriting, expanding the company’s underwriting capabilities in the Irish insurance market.
Paul Whelan will continue to lead Ornella and its existing team from the company’s current location in Wexford. The business will operate under the direction of Michael Doyle, who leads Pen Underwriting’s operations in Ireland.
J. Patrick Gallagher Jr., chairman and CEO of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., said Ornella will strengthen Pen Underwriting’s presence in Ireland by adding complementary underwriting expertise and additional opportunities for growth.
The acquisition continues Gallagher’s expansion of its specialty underwriting operations while adding an established MGA that distributes insurance products through independent broker partners across Ireland.
