EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants has acquired Korotkin Insurance Group (KIG), a fifth-generation independent insurance brokerage with more than a century of history in Michigan.
The acquisition gives EPIC a significant presence in the Detroit market and builds on its existing operations in Grand Rapids. KIG will also serve as a platform for EPIC’s continued expansion across Michigan and the surrounding region.
KIG provides insurance services across several specialized industries, including for-hire transportation, family entertainment centers, real estate and fitness franchises. The firm also serves private clients and small businesses.
Tom O’Neil, vice chairman of EPIC, said KIG’s specialized expertise, longstanding client relationships and established position in the Michigan market made the brokerage a strong addition to EPIC.
As part of the transaction, KIG leaders Emily M. Korotkin, Jeffrey S. Belen, JJ Reifler, Kyle Fenton and Matt H. Warsh will join EPIC as managing principals.
Korotkin said joining EPIC will provide additional resources and expertise for KIG’s employees and clients while allowing the firm to continue building on its longstanding approach to client service.
KIG clients will gain access to EPIC’s broader insurance and risk management capabilities, specialty resources, carrier relationships and technology. The combination will also create opportunities to offer EPIC’s employee benefits and other services to KIG’s commercial insurance clients.
Dan Grelecki, president of EPIC’s Midwest Region, said the acquisition supports EPIC’s expansion in Michigan while adding a team with an established reputation and specialized insurance expertise.
EPIC said KIG will continue emphasizing its local client relationships and community involvement as part of the larger national brokerage platform.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
