Ignyte Insurance has acquired InsureMyTrip, an online travel insurance marketplace that has helped more than 6 million travelers compare and purchase coverage.
The acquisition expands Ignyte’s growing portfolio of travel and travel medical insurance businesses in the U.S. and international markets. InsureMyTrip joins Ignyte brands including ISO Student Health Insurance, Envisage Global Insurance, AllClear, InsureandGo and International Student Insurance.
Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Warwick, Rhode Island, InsureMyTrip allows consumers to compare travel insurance products from multiple insurance providers. Coverage available through the platform includes trip cancellation, travel medical, evacuation, cruise, student travel and annual protection plans.
The company has generated more than 100,000 customer reviews and serves travelers through longstanding relationships with insurance carrier partners.
Geof McKernan, CEO of Ignyte Insurance, said InsureMyTrip’s established brand, carrier relationships and customer base made the company a strong addition to Ignyte’s travel insurance portfolio. He said Ignyte sees opportunities to invest in the business and support its next stage of growth.
Following the acquisition, InsureMyTrip will continue operating under its existing brand and working with its current network of insurance carriers. Ignyte plans to provide additional capital, technology, digital capabilities and operational resources to support the company’s expansion.
The transaction is part of Ignyte’s broader strategy of acquiring and growing specialty insurance businesses, with travel insurance becoming an increasingly important part of its portfolio.
Ignyte said its businesses collectively manage more than $650 million in premium and serve millions of customers worldwide, with operations across the U.S., UK, Europe and Australia.
Financial terms of the InsureMyTrip acquisition were not disclosed.
