NXUS Environmental Underwriters has launched as a managing general agency focused on environmental insurance, with an initial emphasis on Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL) coverage for the construction industry.
Operated by The Del Rio Group, NXUS was developed as a technology-focused platform designed to help retail insurance agencies offer environmental coverage more efficiently and at scale.
The company’s flagship offering, NXUS CPL, provides Contractors Pollution Liability coverage through a digital platform that can be integrated into retail agencies. Agencies can receive customized resources, including branded portals and quotes, to help producers offer CPL coverage to new and existing contractor clients.
Tim Clegg, president of NXUS, said the company built its technology and underwriting processes together from the beginning rather than adding new technology to existing insurance systems. He said the approach is intended to make the platform easier to scale while simplifying the process for retail agency partners.
NXUS has also developed its CPL policy form with two built-in features. Its Favorable Wording Guarantee provides that, in a claims situation, NXUS will honor wording from a contractor’s previous CPL policy when that wording is more favorable. Its Contract Compliance Guarantee provides for the policy to be amended at no additional cost when a contractor’s agreement requires wording that is not already included in the NXUS CPL form.
The MGA has also partnered with Environmental Risk Professionals (ERP) to provide services beyond insurance coverage. These include access to environmental specialists, pollution prevention practices and ERP’s Certified Environmentally Responsible Contractor (CERC) Certification. Contractors can use the CERC credential when submitting bids and requests for proposals to demonstrate environmental risk management and compliance practices.
Brady Waldron, head of product for NXUS, said the CPL program was designed to combine simplified coverage with additional resources for insured contractors while giving agencies tools that can support growth in their environmental insurance business.
NXUS said it plans to use its technology-focused model to make specialized environmental insurance products more accessible to retail agencies and their construction clients.
