reThought Flood has selected Vertafore’s PL Rating comparative rating platform to expand access to its private flood insurance products through independent insurance agencies.
The partnership will connect reThought Flood’s specialized flood coverage with thousands of agents already using Vertafore technology to quote and compare personal lines insurance.
PL Rating currently connects more than 10,000 insurance agents with over 320 carriers and managing general agents (MGAs). According to Vertafore, agents completed 6.8 million flood insurance transactions through the platform in 2025.
By joining PL Rating, reThought Flood aims to make its private flood products easier for independent agents to access during their existing quoting process. Agents will be able to consider private flood coverage alongside other personal lines products without relying on a separate quoting workflow.
Emily McGinn, general manager of MGA and Wholesale at Vertafore, said the partnership demonstrates how the company’s distribution technology can help MGAs expand their reach and connect their products with more retail insurance agencies.
The announcement comes as changes to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps have placed additional residential properties within designated high-risk flood zones, increasing the importance of evaluating flood insurance options.
Vertafore said integrating private flood coverage into the comparative rating process can help agents discuss flood risks with clients while reviewing their other insurance needs.
Kevin Thoms, director at reThought Flood, said the company evaluated several comparative rating platforms before selecting Vertafore. He cited PL Rating’s established agency network and widespread use among independent agents as important factors in the decision.
The partnership supports reThought Flood’s efforts to expand its distribution network while giving independent agencies another way to access private flood insurance products through their existing technology.
