Smart Choice has hired Nate Minton as vice president of AI strategy and innovation, a newly focused role aimed at expanding the independent agency network’s use of artificial intelligence.
In the position, Minton will lead how Smart Choice evaluates, develops and deploys AI technology. The company also plans to develop AI tools that can help its independent agency partners improve efficiency and profitability.
Minton brings experience in customer service operations, technology and artificial intelligence. His career includes leadership positions at Verizon and Rad Power Bikes, where he managed customer service operations for an organization of more than 150 people.
Most recently, Minton worked at Concentrix as an NLU data analytics and optimization consultant. His work included tuning small and large language models and using generative AI to improve voicebot and chatbot performance for Fortune 500 companies.
Andrew Caldwell, CEO of Smart Choice, said the hire is part of the company’s effort to develop a new technology strategy while providing practical AI resources to its agency partners. Those resources could include customized licensed software as well as solutions developed for specific agency needs.
Minton said his focus will be on integrating AI into the workflows agents already use rather than creating additional administrative work.
He said the goal is to use AI infrastructure to accelerate maintenance and administrative tasks, allowing insurance professionals to spend more time growing their books of business.
The appointment represents Smart Choice’s latest investment in technology as the network looks to expand the tools and resources available to its independent agency partners.
