Zurich Insurance Group has completed its acquisition of Beazley Plc, combining the companies’ specialty insurance operations into a London-based global business.
Zurich said the transaction creates the world’s largest specialty insurance business and expands its capabilities across specialized commercial risks. Beazley will be integrated with Zurich Global Specialty.
Mario Greco, group CEO of Zurich, said the combination is expected to accelerate growth by giving Beazley’s underwriters access to Zurich’s distribution network and customer service operations while expanding the specialty solutions available to Zurich clients.
Zurich expects the integration to generate more than $1 billion in additional annual revenue growth by 2029. The company is also targeting at least $150 million in combined annual cost savings and at least $1 billion in one-time capital extraction during the first two years following the transaction.
The acquisition also brings Zurich into Lloyd’s of London for the first time. Zurich said London will serve as the base for its global specialty business, providing access to Lloyd’s underwriting expertise, capital and international distribution capabilities.
Following completion of the transaction, Kristof Terryn has been appointed CEO of Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty, subject to regulatory approval. Adrian Cox will leave Beazley as the company begins its integration with Zurich.
Greco thanked Cox for his leadership and said Terryn’s experience and knowledge of the specialty insurance market will support the combined organization’s next stage of growth.
Zurich also announced several other management changes. Helen Pickford, currently CFO of Zurich UK, will become CFO of Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty. Beazley Group CFO Barbara Plucnar Jensen will remain as a senior advisor through March 2027 to support the integration.
Sally Henderson will become chief people and sustainability officer, succeeding Liz Ashford, who is retiring. Ed Bridge, previously general counsel for Zurich UK and Ireland, will become general counsel of Beazley and Zurich Global Specialty.
The combination gives Zurich a substantially larger specialty insurance platform while adding Beazley’s underwriting capabilities and presence in the Lloyd’s market.
