K2 Insurance Services has expanded its footprint in the small commercial insurance market through the acquisition of Oculus Underwriters, a specialist underwriting management firm focused on tailored property insurance solutions for small and mid-sized businesses. Following the transaction, Oculus Underwriters will operate under Vikco Insurance Services, one of K2’s established brands within its broader specialty insurance portfolio.
The acquisition strengthens Vikco’s underwriting capabilities by adding Oculus’ established book of business and expertise in Business Owner’s Policies (BOP) and commercial property insurance. The move aligns with K2’s broader strategy of growing its specialty insurance platform through partnerships with experienced underwriting teams and niche market operators.
K2 Insurance Services CEO Bob Kimmel said the addition of Oculus complements the company’s ongoing efforts to expand its capabilities in the small and medium-sized commercial segment. He noted that Oculus brings both underwriting talent and a portfolio that fits strategically with Vikco’s existing offerings.
Bryan Schofield, CEO of Oculus Underwriters, said the partnership with K2 and Vikco provides the company with access to a broader distribution network, strong carrier relationships, and additional operational resources to support future growth and client service expansion.
K2 Insurance Services manages nearly $2 billion in niche commercial and personal insurance premiums annually through a network of MGAs and specialty underwriting businesses. Backed by Warburg Pincus, the company has continued to pursue acquisitions aimed at expanding its specialty insurance offerings and strengthening its position in targeted commercial markets.
